Motion Graphics
Op Art Animation

Op Art is an abbreviation of ‘optical art’ and the term came into regular use in the mid-1960s. Denis Juneau is one of the artists who represents the movement. He was a Canadian painter and a leading figure in the Canadian plasticine movement. His geometric approach to abstraction emphasized his experimentation with color.

This project is to create a 30 second promotional motion graphics video for posting on the landing page of the Musée d’art contemporain’s web site using abstract, geometric shapes and images inspired by an Op Art artist Denis Juneau.

Process

After researching Denis Juneau’s Op Art, I came up with the idea of using the same color and structure of shapes he used in his work. To enhance his work in the animation, I placed and moved around with a lot of different types of circles while cooperating playful images and background music.

Outcome

The final work is a dynamic composition that represents Denis Juneau’s Op Art clearly and refers the Op Art movement. The animation, which consists only of circles, triangles, and squares, accurately describes artist’ work and the Op Art movement while creating a visually intriguing animation. Using geometric shapes, I was able to maintain the viewers’ attention throughout the animation by adding playful transitions that also reflects the Op art movements.
